Dear Students, Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,
A short 2-day week; I think we packed 5 days into 2. Nonetheless, Pearson is a school where learning is at its core and community is at its heart.
I want to say, thank you to all staff for participating in CBE’s Maatoomsii’Pookaiks | Children First Indigenous Education Professional Learning Day. Every school in the CBE took time to learn about our new Acknowledgement of the Land, which means and our work in pursuit of truth through ReconciliAction.
Pearson was the host site for the Division 3 Junior Volleyball Championships. Thanks to our wonderful students and Mr. Bakos, we put on a good show and made the most of the opportunity to highlight Pearson. St. Martins’ Jr. Girls and North Trail’s Jr. Boys won gold. Fundraising for our Europe Trip.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Student Parking
Now in effect, City Bylaw will be enforcing the student parking lot. Vehicles without a current school issued parking pass will be ticketed. In addition, there have been increasing instances of poor driving and students skipping classes in their vehicles and loitering in the student parking lot during class time. This is not allowed. If you have a spare and wish to be in your vehicle during class time, you must leave the parking lot. Finally vehicles with illegal blacked out windows will not be allowed to park on school property. Source: Alberta Vehicle Equipment Regulation, Section 69 Window glazing (.pdf file, scroll to page 35).
Alberta window tint laws overview:
- Windshield: No tint allowed.
- Front side windows: No tint allowed.
- Backside windows: Any darkness can be used.
- Rear window: Any darkness can be used only if vehicle has both left and right side rearview mirrors.
Vehicles with illegal tinting will not be allowed on school property at anytime.
Reminders: Letters have been sent to Parent/Guardians/Caregivers for students whose attendance and lates have reached 30% or more. If you receive an attendance letter please speak to your child about this concern. There is a direct correlation between attendance and student success. We cannot help students do their best if they skip or if they are consistently late for class. School Messenger does send out notices if a student is late or absent. If you are getting regular calls there is a problem. If you are in need of help please reach out to the school.
Reporting Absences
When you are calling in late or absent for your student, call 403-280-6565 and press 1 for the Attendance line. Please give the following information: Spell your student’s first name and last name, give their grade, and reason for absence or lateness and a contact number that we have in MyCBE.
